About  de Caumont de la Force
Welcome!

I was born in OK but we moved away when I was little & when we came back we only saw one side. I have this whole other side I don't know what-so-ever. As an adult an aunt gave me a book mostly full of stats. This tree is that book online.

But it's been online a while now & thanks to some cousins we got from Renald Rene I all the way to Renald Rene V...at least somewhat. For Renald Rene I we've heard he was born about 1660 in Guyenne France. We've heard he was born at Château de Castelnaud which was a de Caumont de la Force property. If this is true we may be related to the ducs de la Force.

There's a tree for them but 'til we know for sure I can't combine them. Otherwise we don't know who Rene's parents were, where he was educated, what kind of doctor he was, when he left, where he stopped off along the way, how he got here, where he met his wife, if she was his only wife or when they got married. We also don't know anything about her other then her name was Sarah.

Because of William Byrd's no longer secret diary we know Rene & his group were originally sold other land first. Once they got here they didn't like it. Instead of exchanging it for something they did like Byrd made them buy new land near Manakin Town. I don't know about the others but I guess Rene saw Byrd as a thief...& refused to dine with him. And this hurt Byrd's feelings enough he wrote about it in his diary. If you ever find a copy of this we'd all love to see it.

Otherwise his name's on a few papers. He was made a Justice of the Peace of Goochland County...which was a big deal back in the day. And shortly after that there's a will. We have no exact death date...simply he died sometimes in between the time he wrote his will & the time his will was followed. His will's short a child as she wasn't born 'til after he was gone. His wife's includes the child but is short another one as she'd evidently died.

Speaking of the 4 children...it's thanks to the wills we know they existed. I've never seen anything listing the parents marriage or these kids births/baptisms. I've never seen anything on Rachel La Force's death. One minute she's in a will & the next she's not. I also don't think I've ever seen anything about Rene II or Sarah II's marriages. I have seen something about Judith La Force marrying Robert Burton...but not Mr. Paul.

We know Rene II existed because his wife & some children were captured by the British & Indians at Martin's Station. They were marched to Canada & held there as POW's til after the Revolutionary War. Agnes told people he'd been accidentally shot & killed between VA & KY. So there's the dates on the sale of their property & the dates they were captured. And he's buried somewhere between the border of KY & Martin's Station.

We know III & IV existed because III's first wife's brother left a will naming his deceased sister's 4 kids in it but leaving III & his kids by his second wife out. And of course IV was one of his sister's kids...so he was named in the will.

We know V existed & who his kids were because we finally started doing the census. They're in at least 2 that I know of.

And V was the daddy of my great great grandpa John Bradley LeForce. JB & his wife eventually ended up in OK where 3 of their 4 sons married partial Cherokee Indian women. At least 2 of them had LeForce Ranch. I think a third may have flip flopped between the ranch & real estate. And my great grandpa owned a restaurant at Centralia OK. The other great grandpa was Centralia's Town Marshal. A couple of generations later & Centralia's a ghost town.

This is my dad's side, mom's side, 1/2 brother's side & kid's side. Some of these people are living. To let total strangers in would be to null & void out the "block living people from public" feature. People can view & copy the deceased but that's it.

Otherwise...please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not a genealogist. I'm not a researcher. I'm not even close to a mathematician. And I'm not a teacher. Most importantly...my email inbox is not the family repository. To suggest corrections to the tree go here: http://www.smf4free.com/forums/laforce/index.php/topic,88.0.html

If you're an in-law who don't have a child board yet request one & we can whip one up in a jiffy. But please request one here: http://www.smf4free.com/forums/laforce/index.php/board,16.0.html

Our personal profiles...at the blog or at the forums...have spaces where you can link to other profiles if you've got them. Additionally we have a links page so if you do have your own tree or family site feel free to add the link. We have the tools to share & we have the tools to keep track of each other. We just have to use them. ;-)
